Natural Attractions

Naqadeh county involves nineteen seasonal and permanent wetlands, of which Solduz wetland is one of the permanent wetlands. Natural environments, especially wetlands, have many different aspects to attract enthusiasts. Solduz Wetland is no exception to this rule. This wetland has been created by the local people through construction of an embankment on the Gadarchay River between Lake Urmia and the current location of the wetland. The water from the drainage basin of agricultural lands in the surrounding areas and the Gadarchay River supplies the required water for this wetland. This is a permanent wetland with abundant water, which, considering its beautiful view, is a suitable platform for tourism, education and research.

Vegetation

This wetland is home to more than seventy plant species. The predominant types of vegetation include reeds, cattail, a kind of sedges and juncus. Other species, even in small numbers, grow in different seasons and give a special beauty to the wetland.

Birds

More than 40 species of waterfowl and shorebirds have been identified in the wetlands of Naqadeh county. Migratory birds spend some time in the city’s wetlands to rest and feed, and then continue their migration to more southern areas as the temperature decreases in this wetland. Waterfowl and shorebirds are highly dependent on water resources for nutrition and reproduction and are adapted to aquatic environments. In addition to the gray geese, thousands of migratory and native birds, including Eurasian teal, common shelduck, sandpiper, grebes, coots, common pochard, red-crested pochard, mallard, greater spotted eagle, stilt, sternidae and the very rare white-headed duck are busy resting and eating in this extraordinary wetland.
