Management of the Wetland

The management of the wetland protection and exploitation is a participatory process that is carried out upon the cooperation of influential groups in the wetland. It is expected that the participation of these members in the management decisions of the wetland will increase their sensitivity, motivation and attention regarding the protection and stabilization of operations and reasonable exploitation of the wetland, leading to an effective cooperation in the management and protection process. Solduz Wetland is managed by the Local Department of Environment of Naqadeh under the supervision of the Department of Environment of West Azerbaijan. This office is responsible for the protection of natural resources, the management of the wetland and the management of its protection and sustainable exploitation.
Besides the Department of Environment of West Azerbaijan Province, several other organizations are involved in the management and protection of Solduz Wetland, which are:

  • Natural Resources and Watershed Management which is responsible for protecting the area of wetland, preventing illegal grazing, preventing illegal harvesting and preventing unprincipled transfer and improper exploitation of wetland (mines).
  • Regional Water of the Province, which is responsible for providing water rights to the wetland and managing the drainage basin of Hasanlu Dam.
  • Agricultural Jihad of the Province, which is responsible for non-assignment of the lands around the wetland to unprincipled functions, observing the cultivation pattern in the margin of the wetland and controlling the pollution of agricultural pesticides in the wetland.
  • Governor’s Office of Naqadeh, which is responsible for managing, coordinating and supervising, in addition to maintaining and rehabilitating the wetland.
